A ‘BOGIE’ race at a farm attraction near Carnforth has raised thousands of pounds for a cancer charity.

The cart race at Greenlands Farm Village was held earlier this year and, on Tuesday, CancerCare North Lancashire and South Lakeland was presented with a cheque for £2,000 from the event.

The race was organised by friends Robert Mitchell, 53, from Carnforth, and Lee Knowles, 41, of Lancaster.

Their cause was further boosted when Lee bought and then auctioned a Nissan 350Z car in aid of CancerCare and the Children’s Ward at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Lee, whose mum Jenny works at CancerCare’s Lancaster base, has also signed up to be a volunteer with the charity.

He said: “I was in hospital with a split kidney when I was a child and I had cancer when I was 26. I also have two grandchildren and that is why I raise money for children."

The next bogie race in aid of CancerCare and the Children’s Ward will be at Greenlands Farm Village on June 10, 2018.
