THIS year's Cumbria Poppy Appeal was launched at the Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge.
The Royal British Legion worked with pupils from the school as well as Windermere-based Impact International and James Cropper at Burneside to design a structure to display poppies in public places.
The chosen theme was 'Rethinking Remembrance'.
Year Seven students were given the task of designing and building a structure.
"The students were extremely creative in groups, creating several different structures," said Judith Reay, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion.
The winning structure was an archway. The students plan to have more than 300 poppies placed on their archway along with messages of remembrance placed on the inside.
"We would like as many communities around the region to take inspiration from this project and recreate their own Poppy Archway for their town, village, hamlet or organisation," added Judith.
"We are also working on a professionally recreated archway for use in several high profile public places across the region."
