A SOUTH Cumbria cannabis user who bought the drug in bulk and then sold some to pals has been sentenced by a judge.

Ryan Davies's criminal conduct came to light after police searched a car while investigating an unrelated matter on July 31.

Two dozen wraps of the class B drug with a potential street value of almost £500 were found in the vehicle, along with weighing scales, plastic bags and £110 cash.

Carlisle Crown Court heard 20-year-old Davies was immediately "full and frank" with police and admitted the drug was his.

He confessed to selling small amounts to friends and acquaintances from his own personal stash, some of the money found in his vehicle representing the proceeds.

Davies, of Whinfell, north of Kendal, admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply, and was sentenced today (Friday).

A man of good character, he was said to regret what he had done, had refrained from using the drug and was "somewhat fearful of the outcome" of the court case.

After hearing submissions, Recorder Andrew Jefferies QC imposed a 12-month community order through which Davies must complete 180 hours' unpaid work.

The cannabis and paraphernalia seized will be forfeited and destroyed.
