AN unusual poster is proving popular with Lake District fell lovers.

The poster, which combines science and nature, lists the fells in height order, sectioned into their relative areas within the Lake District National Park in the style of the periodic table of elements.

The Periodic Table of Wainwrights was created by local landscape photographer John Shedwick.

“I adore the Lakeland fells and spend as much time as I can on them as a photographer but also as a volunteer for Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue," Mr Shedwick said. "I’m a methodical person so it seemed a natural idea to organise the fells in this way, I didn’t expect it to appeal to so many but people seem to love visualising fells in a way that is recognisable and structured. I’ve had feedback that people are using it to challenge themselves and set targets, it’s exciting to hear it has a practical value as well as being good to look at."

The A2 poster which costs £9.99 has sold over one hundred copies in just the last three days also raises money for Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association as 75p from each sale is given to the charity.

The poster can bought in over ten outlets around Cumbria including Rattle Gill Cafe, Ambleside; The Britannia inn, Elterwater and K70-Ooh-La-La, Hawkshead.
