TWO women died after their car hit a tree on the A65 near Austwick on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision on the to contact them.

The accident happened approximately 10.45am.

A small silver coloured Nissan Micra hatchback was travelling from Settle in the direction of Ingleton, when it left the road and hit a tree near Austwick.

The passenger in the vehicle, an 89-year-old woman from Morley in Leeds, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, an 87-year-old woman, also from Morley, sustained serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Preston Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw the car travelling along the A65 prior to the collision to contact them, to help them establish the circumstances around the incident.
