CUMBRIA County Council will be carrying out resurfacing work on the A591 in Windermere next week.

The council will be investing £410,000 in the scheme, which will involve replacing a worn-out section of carriageway with a brand new road surface between Elleray Road and Cooks House roundabout.

Resurfacing work is scheduled to start on Monday 27 November and is expected to be completed within approximately three weeks. In order to minimise disruption on this busy road, the works will be carried out during the off-peak evening period from 6.30pm to 12.30am approximately, Monday to Friday only.

It will be necessary to close this section of the A591 during these times so that the work can be done in line with current health and safety legislation. A signed diversion via Lake Road/Crag Brow and Rayrigg Road will be in place during the closure.

The council’s contractors will try to maintain access as much as possible for business and residents directly affected by the closure. Access will be maintained for the emergency services and dismounted cyclists throughout the duration of the works.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for highways, said:“The A591 is one of the busiest roads in the county and the main north/south route through the Lake District. We have timed this essential maintenance work to take place at night during the off peak season to minimise disruption. However the road closure is likely to cause some temporary inconvenience and we would like to thank people for their patience and understanding during this period.”
