COUNCIL enforcement officers are investigating what is believed to be the largest single case of tyre dumping in South Lakeland.
At least 120 tyres were found blocking Watery Lane at Crooklands, near Kendal.
South Lakeland District Council’s neighbourhood enforcement officer, John Barwise, says he was shocked by the amount of tyres discovered.
“We usually find two or three but not more than 100 dumped in a single irresponsible action," he said. "This is certainly the largest quantity of tyres we have seen fly-tipped in South Lakeland and that may provide the biggest clue as to who has done this.”
The tyres are thought to have been dumped on the weekend of November 18 and 19.
Anyone with information should ring SLDC’s neighbourhood enforcement team on 01539 733333.
