MP TIM Farron marked the two-year anniversary of Storm Desmond by tabling a motion in Parliament this week.
The Westmorland and Lonsdale MP said it was right to remember the "traumatic event that hit thousands of us here, and to celebrate the strength our community as we pulled through it together".
Mr Farron said he welcomed the Environment Agency's announcement that work would start on flood defences for the River Kent in 2018.
"I do understand how important it is to get this right and I know that local Environment Agency workers on the ground are working tirelessly to protect our area, they deserve our thanks – but there just aren’t enough of them," said the MP.
"I will continue to put pressure on the government to get on with the job of giving our communities the flood protection they so desperately need to keep us safe in the future.”
