LEADING Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg MP visited Kendal to celebrate Christmas with members and guests of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservative Association.

The annual Christmas lunch, where Mr Rees-Mogg was appearing as guest of honour and held at Carus Green Golf Club on Friday, sold out within a week when tickets were released this summer.

On the same day as Mr Rees-Mogg visited Kendal, the Conservative Government announced a key agreement had been made on withdrawal from the European Union. It guaranteed EU and UK citizen’s rights, no hard border with Ireland and settling the financial terms of exit.

The event included an auction and raffle to raise funds for future campaigning. Amongst the prizes, a 33-year-old bottle of House of Commons whisky, autographed by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was donated by former constituency agent Arthur Moss. It was won by Caroline Airey, wife of 2017 General Election Parliamentary Candidate Cllr James Airey.

The event was the second time in a fortnight that South Lakeland had been visited by leading Conservatives, coming two weeks after the visit of the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, the Rt. Hon. Ruth Davidson.

Alan Price, Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservative Association chairman, said: “We were thrilled to have had Jacob Rees-Mogg as our guest of honour last Friday. As always, he spoke with intelligence, eloquence and charm, with a packed room hanging on his every word.”

“Building on the huge electoral progress made by the association earlier this year with our candidate James Airey, we look forward to many more high-profile visits over coming months.”
