Officers are continuing their investigation following the death of 31-year-old Barrow man Andrew Hackett on Sunday morning.

North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Constabulary attended Gloucester Street in Barrow at around 7am on 10 December, 2017.

Mr Hackett was taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital but later died.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene, initially on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He is now under arrest on suspicion of murder.

A second man, aged 39, was also detained in relation to this incident after being located in the Salthouse Mills area of Barrow. He was taken away by ambulance having suffered a suspected drugs overdose.

He remains in hospital and under arrest on suspicion of murder.

The family of Mr Hackett has released a photograph today.

Superintendent Sarah Jackson said: “We are continuing our investigation and a scene remains in place in Gloucester Street. I would like to thank the public for their patience as our officers continue their work.

“We are continuing to work with the family of Mr Hackett and our thoughts are with them at this time.

“I would like to reiterate the appeal for anyone who has information about what took place on Sunday morning and who has yet to make contact with us to please do so.”
