CARNFORTH'S new mayor and deputy for 2018-19 were to be elected last night (Wednesday).

The town's current mayor is Cllr Pat Wooff, with Cllr Bob Roe as deputy mayor.

Carnforth Town Council was last night also to consider its spending plans for the year ahead.

Among the budget items to be looked at for 2018-19 were:

- £1,000 to organise an event marking 50 years since the end of regular steam railway services at Carnforth

- £3,000 for special events for Remembrance 2018 to commemorate the end of World War One

- £3,000 for renovations to the war memorial statue

- £4,000 to buy and install a bus shelter for Windermere Road

- £1,500 for cleaning 'consumables' at Carnforth Civic Hall

- £600 for the mayoral allowance, down from £900

- and £750 for new computer and printing equipment for the town clerk.
