FRUSTRATED passengers will get a fresh chance to grill rail bosses over continued train failures in a campaign meeting arranged by John Woodcock MP on Friday.

Top of the agenda will be an update on the urgent search to secure new locomotives to replace the notorious 50-year-old class 37s which are repeatedly breaking down and causing misery for commuters.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron and a representative from the office of Copeland MP Trudy Harrison are also due to attend the Cumbria Better Connected meeting in Ulverston, underlining the united front to push for change in Westminster.

A representative from the new umbrella organisation Transport for the North has also pledged to attend after John held talks with the body this week.

Mr Woodcock said: “Furness passengers continue to suffer from rail services blighted by delays, cancellations, and third-rate rolling stock – but we will keep pushing for improvements.

“The rail minister has at least agreed to meet me and neighbouring MPs to discuss the crisis.

“I am glad to be able to get everyone together for an update and to give the public the opportunity to ask questions from the floor.”

The meeting gets underway in the Coronation Hall supper room at 10am and it is expected to conclude around 12 midday.
