FIX the Fells has won two awards in recognition of its work repairing and maintaining mountain paths in the Lake District.

In The Great Outdoors Awards 2017 Fix the Fells won the award for the hard-fought Campaign or Campaigner of the Year. The Fix the Fells volunteers, known as Lengthsmen, also picked up the new ‘Extra Mile’ award.

Joanne Backshall, programme manager of Fix the Fells, said: "This is a great recognition of the hard work of the whole Fix the Fells team, which comprises 20 Rangers and over 100 volunteer lengthsmen.

"They carry out extremely difficult and skilled work in the high fells in all weathers so that we can enjoy the spectacular Lakeland scenery.

"We are very grateful for this endorsement of what we do and for the wonderful support we receive from so many people."

Fix the Fells is a partnership of the National Trust, the Lake District National Park, Natural England, Friends of the Lake District and the Lake District Foundation.
