REGARDED as one of the UKs leading tribute bands Limehouse Lizzy take their name partly from its East London origins and partly from its musical heroes Thin Lizzy. The band play homage to the kings of classic rock and especially Thin Lizzy's charismatic frontman Phil Lynott. Limehouse Lizzy is fortunate in having Lynott look-alike and sound-alike frontman Wayne Ellis. They have also added tribute into the show to ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore. RUSLAND Valley Horticultural Society presents A Potato Day, featuring the sale of more than 120 varieties of seed potatoes, fruit bushes and trees, plus seeds, onion sets, flower bulbs and tubers (supplied by Brighter Blooms Nursery, Preston). The event takes place on Sunday (January 21) between 10am-3pm at Greenodd Village Hall. There’s also homemade soup and cakes available.

ABBOT Hall Art Gallery is delighted to be able to showcase a masterpiece by one of the world’s most famous painters, Claude Monet’s Haystacks: Snow Effect. It will be on display until April 28.

The painting, dated 1891, is from a series of work widely regarded as among Monet’s best and is loaned from the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh. It is believed to be the very first time that a Monet has been on display in Cumbria and cements Abbot Hall’s commitment to show work by iconic international artists. There are 25 paintings from Monet’s Haystacks series held at galleries around the globe including Tokyo, Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris and now Kendal. The full 2018 programme of exhibitions, displays and events being held at the venue will be announced shortly.

LAKES Players amateur dramatic society present magical panto Cinderella from Wednesday to Sunday (January 24-28) at The Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, near Windermere. The Players panto is renowned for its visual effects and this year’s sparkling show includes a soaring Cinderella coach and horses, elaborate costumes and a flying fairy. Rachel Baines is Cinderella, Nicky and Stewart Woods play the Ugly Sisters, Hernia and Verucca, Alex Wickens is Buttons, Matt Chadbourne plays the Prince, Caitlin Taylor is cast as Dandini and Debs Bradshaw as the fairy, Nita. JACK & The Beanstalk performed by Ulverston Pantomime Society is a traditional panto with a rip-roaring 21st century twist! This magical show tells the story of how Jack Trott takes his family from rags to riches with many madcap escapades ending with the demise of the giant. All the interesting characters can be enjoyed including Daisy the cow. The show takes place from Wednesday to Saturday (January 24-27), evening performances at 7pm with a Saturday matinee at 2pm, at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston.

Ulverston Pantomime Society is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, it began in 1948 when the British legion first began performing.
