BROUGHTON Drama Group presents Rapunzel by Paul Jordin. This traditional tale (with a little artistic license!) tells the story of the long-haired heroine who has been imprisoned in – wait for it …. Broughton Tower! There’s the usual royals – King, Queen and hapless Prince; evil Witch hell-bent on world domination, and of course the blundering comedy duo, fairy godmother and the beautiful and gutsy Princess. THE Promenade Concert Orchestra presents its 11th New Year Viennese Concert, at The Platform, Morecambe, on Sunday (January 28, 3pm). Highlights Rural Touring presents Theatre Hullabaloo’s Bear & Butterfly – the story of a grumpy bear and a world travelling butterfly will warm the hearts of young audiences at Carlisle’s Old Fire Station on Tuesday (January 30), at 10.30am & 1pm. Puppetry, live music and beautiful storytelling combine in this charming tale about love, loss and friendship, which is performed on an artful set with an animated mechanical tree full of props and surprises. This show is performed by two actors to live cello music for 4-7 year olds.

LAKES Players amateur dramatic society present magical panto Cinderella from Wednesday to Sunday (January 24-28) at The Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, near Windermere. The Players panto is renowned for its visual effects and this year’s sparkling show includes a soaring Cinderella coach and horses, elaborate costumes and a flying fairy. Rachel Baines is Cinderella, Nicky and Stewart Woods play the Ugly Sisters, Hernia and Verucca, Alex Wickens is Buttons, Matt Chadbourne plays the Prince, Caitlin Taylor is cast as Dandini and Debs Bradshaw as the fairy, Nita. JACK & The Beanstalk performed by Ulverston Pantomime Society is a traditional panto with a rip-roaring 21st century twist! This magical show tells the story of how Jack Trott takes his family from rags to riches with many madcap escapades ending with the demise of the giant. All the interesting characters can be enjoyed including Daisy the cow.
