A MAN was warned he faces a jail term for a Kendal attack which featured kicks and punches.

A judge at Carlisle Crown Court noted that Jake Thomas Wilson had "made a real mess" of his victim, Matthew Lightburn, during a violent incident at an address in the town.

Wilson, 20, appeared in the dock today when he admitted unlawfully wounding Mr Lightburn on September 4, 2016.

The court heard Wilson accepted delivering "two, if not three kicks" with an "unshod foot" and "repeated punches".

He admitted the offence on the basis of "excessive self-defence" against a male who was said to have been an "uninvited guest" at the address.

Prosecutor Raymond Smith stated the crime "looked very, very bad", but stressed: "It wasn't as serious as it could have been."

Judge Timothy Clayson ordered a full pre-sentence report, and adjourned the case until February 9.

Wilson, of Chapel Field, Burneside, will receive his punishment on that date, and was granted conditional bail in the meantime.

"You have pleaded guilty to what, on any view, is a serious offence," Judge Clayson told Wilson - a man of previous good character.

"You should be fully aware that this sort of behaviour is likely to result in a custodial sentence."
