Kendal Town suffered a resounding 7-0 defeat at promotion chasing Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.

The Mintcakes, who lost their third consecutive game, are now six points above the relegation zone, while the team are yet to pick up any points in 2018.

Scarborough made an imposing start and created early opportunities through Max Wright, Michael Coulson and Luke Dean.

Kendal had a penalty appeal turned down after Paul Alexander went down in the box. Alexander, who claimed to have been felled by Wright, saw his appeal turned down by the referee.

The hosts continued to dominate as James Walshaw, James Cadman and Coulson were all denied by Will Kitchen in the Kendal goal.

Scarborough opened the scoring after 23 minutes when Walshaw placed the ball past Kitchen. Walshaw capitalised on some good build up play by Cadman and Coulson to break the deadlock.

Kendal almost equalised four minutes later when Ben Thomas’s free kick was well saved by the Scarborough keeper.

However, Scarborough doubled their lead soon after when Wright’s ball across from the right hand side nestled into the top corner of the net.

Scarborough added a third goal when Coulson powered his way past the Kendal defence before heading a Wright delivery into the net.

The scoreline could have been even more embarrassing during the first half if not for Kitchen who made a number of good saves.

Scarborough continued to run riot during the second half as Coulson chipped the ball into the net, before Lewis Sugden scored as Scarborough surged into a 5-0 lead.

Kitchen made some spectacular saves to deny Walshaw, Coulson, Cadman, and Sugden, before Nathan Curtis scored Scarborough’s sixth goal of the afternoon.

Kendal's misery was compounded when Jimmy Beadle's long range effort fell into the bottom corner as Scarborough ran out 7-0 winners.

Kendal are due to host Colne on Saturday as David Foster's team look to bounce back.
