A GOVERNOR at Furness General Hospital (FGH) is being thanked for her fundraising efforts after raising more than £15,000 over the past six years. Shahnaz Asghar is in her third term as a Governor at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

Paula Richardson, head of charity and fundraising at Bay Hospitals Charity said: “On behalf of the Bay Hospitals Charity team, I would like to say a massive thank you to Shahnaz for all of her fantastic fundraising efforts. Shahnaz has held raffles, cake decorating competitions, Santa dashes and auctions, all for the benefit of our hospital. Shahnaz has raised more than £15,000 benefiting many areas of FGH – including the Children’s Ward, Stroke Ward and Dementia Wards. We are very lucky to have her support.”

Shahnaz Asghar, Governor at Furness General Hospital and fundraiser said: “I like to talk to the Ward Managers, Matrons and staff and find out what they need and how I can help them by fundraising.

“Fundraising has come from sitting at the main reception, going into local supermarkets, attending events at Forum 28, going to coffee mornings and raising this money through raffles and auctions.

“Every year for five years I have organised Christmas fundraising events; I organise these events as is part of my thank you to patients, the staff and thank you to the Trust.”
