RESIDENTS have raised concerns about plans to extend Sandside Quarry's period of use to 2029.

Speaking on behalf of Sandside villagers, Janice Dyson told Beetham Parish Council this would delay the site's return to nature.

She said there were questions about possible pollution from gas and smoke emissions as a result of recycling at the Tarmac site.

Jilly Mounsey, manager of Sandside Quarry, said: “I want to thank everyone who took the time to give us their views as part of the public consultation we held last year.

"I can assure residents that we remain committed to restoring the site once mineral extraction is complete and we will continue to work closely with the community via our liaison group taking on board their suggestions where possible and addressing any concerns.

"We have now submitted the planning application to Cumbria County Council. We will keep residents updated on the progress of the application."
