"THE betterment of the world can be achieved through pure and goodly deeds." This quotation from Baha’u’llah is one I know by heart. A better world, one in which there is unity and justice for everyone, is surely something that everybody wants. It’s certainly the goal of every member of the Baha’i Faith.
So how can it be achieved? Who has the power to make it happen? I am only a young person, I don’t have any power. At least not any in the traditional sense; I’m not a politician; I don’t run a big business or have lots of money. But these things are not the answer anyway.
The answer, as far as I can tell, is very simple: we have to start in our own neighbourhood. Bringing people together, creating true friendships where we support and help each other. The helpful things we do for other people are the pure and goodly deeds Baha’u’llah’s words refer to. If we do what we can in our own little part of the world then that part of the world at least is a better place.
And it’s already happening all over the world. I recently attended a youth conference where young people from around the UK came together to discuss these issues and learn from each other how to improve and increase the number of community projects. It was incredible to be with so many diverse youth and see how much energy and dedication there is to achieving this positive future. Who’s with me?
