Lakes hotels some of the best in the world

TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice awards honour the world's most outstanding properties, with Cumbrian hotels placing near the top of the pile.

When it came to value for money, the Cragwood Country House Hotel in Windermere was third best rated in the UK and 20th in Europe.

Joe Cobb, executive commercial manager for Lake District Country Hotels, which owns Cragwood, said the hotel team was 'most proud' to be held in such high esteem.

"Here at the Cragwood, our guests aren’t just a number," he said. "We want all of our guests to feel as though they are in a home from home and our team are more than happy to go the extra mile, whether that be for people coming on holiday, visiting for work or if it is during their wedding reception.

"We believe with the fantastic arts and crafts building, lakeside grounds or AA rosetted food, there is something for everyone at the Cragwood."

And Windermere's Gilpin Hotel and Lake House also made the list, named the UK's 14th top hotel overall and 16th best luxury hotel

The Grasmere Hotel has also been given a nod, named 12th best bargain hotel in the world, seventh in Europe and second in the UK.

The hotel also ranks 19th in the UK for best service and 14th in the UK most romantic hotels category.

Also in Windermere, the Cedar Manor Hotel and Restaurant placed in two categories. For best service the hotel comes 18th in the UK and 10th in the UK’s most romantic hotels.

And Burnthwaite Farm at Wasdale Head is eighth best bargain hotel in the UK while Briery Wood Country House Hotel in Windermere was named the UK’s 15th best bargain hotel.
