A REBELLIOUS reptile that went walkabout in Kendal has been found by holidaymakers and is now being cared for by the RSPCA.
The lost tortoise, that would normally be hibernating at this time of year, is now being given some tender loving care at one of the charity's rescue centres in Manchester.
Christine Lowe, of RSPCA Westmorland, said: "This tortoise has gone on its holidays. It is perfectly well, but it is quite unusual to find tortoises at this time of year because they should be asleep."
Mrs Lowe did not wish to give details of the tortoise, as a description must be provided from the owners to identify it when they contact the RSPCA to claim it.
Anybody who has lost a tortoise in the Kendal area should contract rspcawestmorland@btconnect.com and give details of the type of tortoise, where it was lost, and any identifying features.
