KENDAL Town suffered an agonising 2-1 defeat to Colne on Tuesday night at The ST&B Accountants Stadium, despite dominating much of the encounter.

The visitors edged into a 2-0 lead at half time as Alex Curran hit an unstoppable 20-yard effort into the top corner of the net before Oliver Crankshaw scored after 37 minutes.

Kendal battled back in the second half with Steven Yawson scoring, but Colne held out to claim the win.

Kendal made a strong start but were unable to create any real opportunity on goal.

Coln had struggled to retain any possession, but it was the visitors who created the first real opportunity after 15 minutes when Curran fired the ball wide after cutting inside on the left.

Kendal forced a succession of corners and continued to force the Colne defence into action, resulting in Ben Thomas seeing his free kick comfortably saved by Colne goalkeeper Hakan Burton.

Colne broke the deadlock with 25 minutes played when Curran, teed up by Crankshaw, found time and space to unleash a fierce drive which left on-loan Everton goalkeeper Matthew Johnson with no chance of keeping it out.

The duo then switched roles and Curran turned provider, playing a low ball into the path of Crankshaw who made no mistake from close range to double Colne's advantage.

Kendal made an imposing start to the second half with Charlie Bowman and Paul Dawson both testing the Colne keeper while Yawson also went close but he chipped the ball over the bar.

The Mintcakes pulled a goal back after 65 minutes when Yawson placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Kendal were camped in the attacking third while the Colne defence put in a lot of last ditch challenges as Bowman, Yawson and Dawson saw their efforts on goal saved.

Colne almost sealed the points when Crankshaw found himself clean through on goal, but Ben Thomas was on hand to deny the talisman with a challenge in the penalty area.

Kendal were relentless in their play, while Colne scrambled the ball away from danger. Despite the pressure, time ran out for the hosts as Colne celebrated the win.
