A LONG-established Flookburgh family is hoping planners will look favourably upon its hopes to build a pair of bungalows.

Two generations of the Manning family are seeking outline consent to build two dwellings side-by-side on the paddock where they keep horses, beside 47 Allithwaite Road, in Flookburgh.

Lower Holker Parish Council and six sets of neighbours have expressed their support for the plans, to enable the family to stay living locally.

The bungalows are to provide homes for Tim Manning and his partner, who are renting as they cannot afford local property prices; and Mr Manning's mother, a care home worker, and father, who has mobility problems.

According to documents lodged with South Lakeland District Council, the family are "strong community members" whose housing needs "have become acute".

One neighbour told the council: "I fully support homes for local people" while another described the plans as "a wonderful idea".
