A TINY pub situated at Carnforth railway station is gearing up for its grand reopening after five months of refurbishment work.

The Snug, which first opened in 2012, was in need of a major overhaul due to structural damage.

Gregg Beaman, co-owner, said that the pub was in 'pretty bad shape' with leaks resulting in rotten floors and damp walls.

However, the structural damage has now been addressed and the small space has been redecorated.

"All the decorating is brand new," Mr Beaman said. "There's a new ceiling and they have completely re-done the toilets. The floor was rotten and we have now got a new floor. It's all in pretty good condition now.

"It's not a massive building, 330 square foot, so we didn't want to do too much but it's quite bright and breezy."

Mr Beaman said that the pub was mainly known as a real ale establishment but it also offered a selection of ciders and upwards of 20 gins.

"We are always looking for something new and special," Mr Beaman said, explaining that he and wife Julie sourced beers locally from Hawkshead Brewery and Westmorland Brewery as well as from as far away as Sussex.

"We are constantly changing and giving people something new to try. Customers love the range."

The pub has picked up several awards in its six years of trading, winning CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2013 and making the CAMRA Good Beer Guide in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

It has also amassed a loyal following, with some customers enjoying trips out to Unsworth's Yard Brewery in Cartmel, Liverpool and Manchester to sample different real ales.

"We have been in touch with customers on social media and via email," said Mr Beaman, who lives in Carnforth. "So there's quite a buzz of excitement about the re-opening now.

"It's more like a party at the pub, especially when we are busy on a Friday and Saturday night."

The pub re-opens tomorrow (Friday 23) and Mr Beaman said there would be good beer, food and the chance to catch up with friends.
