THE Victorian railway station at Grange-over-Sands is to be brought into the 21st century.
Arriva Rail North is seeking consent to install a ticket vending machine on platform one as well as a WiFi router in the glass canopy overhead, so travellers can browse the internet on their smartphones and tablets. Baby changing facilities and toilets are also to be modernised.
Grange railway station, at Station Square, was designed by architects Paley, Sharpe and Austin for the Furness Railway Company and opened in 1877, according to plans lodged with South Lakeland District Council.
Renovated in 1916, its distinctive architecture with glass canopies and cast-iron columns was again restored in 1997.
