A LOT of decisions have been made by the Lib Dem-controlled South Lakeland District Council recently. A lot of controversial decisions. No more controversial than New Road at Kendal.
On New Road, the fences are up. 'Decontamination' work has begun.
Some of us are on the side of the fence (caravan or no caravan) thinking this is a total waste of public money. Others are on the same side of the fence as the council.
Either way, we all want to put this debate to bed. Should we, or shouldn’t we? That’s why the council needs to get smart. They should postpone any costly work planned for New Road until after we revisit the ballot box on May 3 for the latest local elections - a whole council election.
If the councillors behind this whole episode want to get the backing of the people, they should seek that mandate.
People want their say. They will either back it, or reject it. Let’s wait and let the people decide on May 3!
