POLICE are warning the public to be vigilant after an Arnside resident received a scam phone call.

The victim received a parcel in December 2017 which they had not ordered and was not expected.

The parcel was returned to the sender, a company called Homeguard-UK.

Following on from this the victim received a telephone call from a male who claimed to be employed by the National Crime Agency. The victim was informed that they were investigating the parcel which had been sent and that the victims money was at risk.

The victim was advised to transfer money from their bank account into a 'safe account' and was given bank account details.

The victim transferred money as advised but was then unable to make contact with the caller.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "The public are asked to be aware of such scams and to be alert to phone calls from individuals claiming to be from agencies. The public are also reminded not to pass over any personal details/bank details, not to transfer any money and not to feel pressured into engaging with the callers."
