A TEENAGER who flouted a suspended jail term in Kendal after getting drunk has been spared custody by a judge.

Fletcher Leon Cannon, 19, was originally sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court last year. He had assaulted his ex-partner, and also admitted dangerous driving, damaging property and a perverting the course of justice charge. Cannon committed the latter offence by asking the female to change a witness statement she had given police.

A 10-month custodial term was suspended by a judge. But Cannon, of Castle Riggs, Kendal, was back at the crown court today after breaching that sentence.

A prosecutor said Cannon came to the attention of police in the early hours of January 21 at Finkle Street. He was deemed drunk and disorderly, and resisted an officer as he was arrested.

The teen admitted both offences, and was said to have "no recollection of what had occurred".

After hearing Cannon had made good progress with his previous court order, Judge Barbara Forrester fined him £500 and ordered him to pay £265 costs.

"On this occasion I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that this was a one-off on an evening when you drank too much," said Judge Forrester.
