THE Kendal branch of a home care service is taking part in a national campaign, ‘You Can Care’, to address the shortage of care workers.

Judy and Will Clay, who own and run the Kendal office of Home Instead Senior Care, will be banishing pre-conceived ideas of what caring is all about, as well as informing people how rewarding working in care can be.

The first event to take place supporting the campaign is an open day, which is being held at the Home Instead Office at Meadowbank House, Meadowbank Business Park, Shap Road on March 29, 12-2.30pm.

The open day will give members of the public the chance to meet the team, have a chat, and to find out more about the unique services and employment opportunities there are within the award-winning home care company.

According to Skills for Care, the strategic body for workforce development in adult social care in England, there are approximately 90,000 vacancies in the social care sector at any given time.

Home Instead, who specialise in care for older people in their own homes, is hoping to fill 50 jobs in 2018 in order to keep pace with demand.

Speaking about the campaign launch, Judy said: “Being a CAREGiver can be a wonderfully rewarding career for compassionate people and the new ‘You Can Care’ campaign will champion all the positive aspects of care.”

The hashtag #youcancare has been created to support the campaign. As well as sharing positive stories, the company will also be offering tips, advice and support for the hundreds of people caring for family members in the local area.
