A 70-year-old woman died after plunging 60 feet from a cliff top path at the weekend.

Emergency services were called at 12.30pm on Sunday after the woman fell onto the beach on the path from Silverdale to Arnside.

Despite keeping her alive for over an hour thanks to the initial quick thinking heroics of a medically trained member of the public and hard work by the rescue teams the lady’s injuries were too severe.

She died in the helicopter on the way to Royal Preston Hospital.

Morecambe’s volunteer lifeboat crew were tasked by the Coastguard to assist air ambulance, local coastguard and mountain rescue teams.
