A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl has been left in a 'critical' condition after a collision on the A591 on Saturday (March 17).

At around 6.45pm the white Ford Fiesta left the carriageway near to Bannerigg Farm, between Windermere and Ings.

The car, which had been travelling from Windermere to Kendal, left the road in poor weather and collided into trees and a ditch.

The driver, a 23-year-old woman, and the front seat passenger, a 29-year-old man, both from Preston, received minor injuries.

A boy and girl, both four years old, were sitting in the rear of the car.

The boy received minor injuries but the girl received serious injuries. She was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary and then transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool where her condition is described as 'critical'.

Cumbria Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision. Anyone with any information should contact 101 for the attention of PC 2190.
