ONE of the region's leading artists collectives is offering people the chance to pick up a piece of original art at a bargain price and support a local charity at the same time.

This year’s annual Green Door Art Auction will see the money raised divided equally between Kendal-based charity Space2Create and establishing artist development activities for Green Door members.

The art auction is staged at Space2Create, Studio 31 (Unit 31), The Factory, Castle Mills, Aynam Road, on Wednesday, March 28.

Proceedings starts at 7pm, with bidding ending promptly at 9pm.

Green Door administrator Janice Benson said GD artists had long admired the work that Space2Create undertook with the local community. She added: "Their work helps people suffering or recovering from long term mental or physical health issues through creative activity. They believe, as we do we, that creative activity has a positive impact on the wellbeing - not just of individuals but communities too. Members of our steering group were unanimous in their decision that they were a fantastic cause to benefit from this year’s auction."

“We held our first art auction back in 2012 when Green Door was getting back on its feet financially after the fire at our old studios. We had a great response and decided that, when we could, future auctions should support a local cause as well as our own members."

Green Door members are hoping the evening will generate plenty of interest and sales and is the first event in another busy year for the self-managed, not-for-profit artists' co-operative based in South Lakeland, which has a major new group exhibition pencilled in at Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre for June. Members are also planning their annual art trail which for 2018 moves back to its original September slot, held on the weekend of September 29/30.
