WORK looks set to begin next month on 110 new homes at a greenfield site on Kendal's southern fringe.

Housebuilder Jones Homes has secured more than five hectares of land at Milnthorpe Road for the major new development, to be called Stonecross Meadows.

Construction is expected to start in April and take around four years to complete, with the first dwellings to be released for sale in summer 2018.

Show homes will follow in early 2019 with the first houses ready for occupation in spring 2019.

Gary Hardy, managing director of the Cheshire-based developer Jones Homes, said: "We are delighted to have secured land in Kendal and have the opportunity to showcase our homes in this enviable location on the edge of the Lake District National Park.

"Our Stonecross Meadows development promises to offer an array of highly specified new homes in an attractive semi-rural setting. We’ve already received a great deal of interest in the scheme and anticipate properties being in high demand once they are officially released for sale."

The development is the first by Jones Homes in South Lakeland. The company says it is "delighted to be expanding into Cumbria" and has pledged more than £300,000 towards local schools and highways work.

The 110 new-build homes will include three, four and five-bedroom properties, detached and semi-detached. Thirty-eight of them will be affordable, of which 18 of which will be offered for sale "at a discounted value".

Two new split-level house types have been designed especially for Stonecross Meadows, added the company, to complement the natural lie of the land.
