100 YEARS AGO -1918
Several cases of diptheria have occurred in Kendal. Since March 11 four outbreaks have been notified, each case being in a different district in the town. In two cases the attacks have proved fatal, one death being a girl four years and nine months old, and the other of a girl aged five.
50 YEARS AGO - 1968
A 40ft-long articulated tanker skidded on the ice-covered road at Staveley yesterday morning and demolished the front of Sydney Fishwick’s grocery shop.The vehicle glanced off the building and overturned, completely blocking the road.
25 YEARS AGO - 1993
Campaigning residents were jubilant last night after Cumbria County Council bowed to pressure and agreed to improve a notorious Kendal road junction. Traffic lights will be installed at the busy Burton Road - Oxenholme Road junction during the coming year.
