A YOUNG Harbour porpoise was successfully rescued at Sandside last night by Cumbria's British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
The porpoise had been stranded in shallow water and was found on the evening of April 4.
Divers assessed the porpoise at the scene and deemed it in good body condition, responsive and with a good breathing rate so the decision was made to refloat.
With help from the Arnside coastguard and Lancaster search and rescue the team transported the young porpoise to deeper water where they then restored the cetacean's equilibrium.
Following this the porpoise swam off strongly.
