COLD weather failed to wither the spirits of dozens of flower enthusiasts who enjoyed the 38th annual Silverdale Horticultural and Gardening Society's Spring Show.
More than 200 people visited the Gaskell Hall where they were treated to a colourful display of flowers, floral art, handicrafts, photos and well-supported children’s classes.
The freezing weather leading up to the show was also noted by the show judges.
“It has been a pleasure to judge such an array of beautiful and varied entries this year," said Susan Rowley, head gardener at Sizergh Castle, who judged the flower classes. "The quality and standard of exhibits is always high at Silverdale. They were particularly impressive this year given the harsher conditions we have experienced. The hellebores were a personal favourite.”
Visitors to the show were also treated to a selection of home-made cakes, coffee and teas provided by the ladies of the Women's Institute.
“The pleasure people get from taking part or just enjoying the efforts of others makes our job on the committee so rewarding and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and support," said Sarah Fishwick, chair of the Silverdale Horticultural and Gardening Society.
