On Saturday, Hawes Farm with 180 acres of arable meadow and woodlands belonging to Sedgwick Gunpowder Co was sold at public auction at Kendal Town Hall to Mr William Howson, of Berryholme, for £5,712.
50 YEARS AGO - 1968
Kendal’s new one-way traffic system, while it is speeding the flow of traffic, is cutting trade at some businesses in the Wildman Street area. George Ellison, of Kentdale Garage, on the corner of Stramongate, said that his petrol sales had been reduced by one-third.
25 YEARS AGO - 1993
Bungee jumpers have landed in a row with Ambleside residents over their Easter charity plunge. Retired fruit wholesaler Dennis Foster said the air turned blue with four letter words as 180 people, attached to radio microphones, took the 120ft plunge at Waterhead.
