A NEW Non-Executive Director has been appointed at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).

Adrian Leather is currently serving as a Chief Executive of Active Lancashire, a charity committed to getting people physically active and improving their lives.

“I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Adrian as our new Non Executive Director," Ian Johnson, Chairman of the UHMBT, said.

"Non Executive Directors are an essential part of good governance systems and they ensure effective management arrangements are in place, together with the responsibility of holding the Executive team to account for performance.”

Mr Leather has worked with Active Lancashire since 2006, coming from a background in ecology, community development and Youth Justice.

He has worked in Lancashire for more than 20 years and is committed to improving opportunities for the county and celebrating its strengths and uniqueness.

Mr Leather's current role sees him ensuring that active lifestyles are seen as a strategic priority and enabling partners work together to improve opportunities and resources for sport and physical activity in Lancashire.

Mr Leather describes himself as 'always looking for a new personal challenge.'

He enjoys cycling, running and restoring his house outside of work.

“I’m delighted to be joining UHMBT and feel my skills and experience will compliment those already represented on the Trust Board," Mr Leather said.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Trust Board, its governors and staff to sustain and improve its operational performance and maintain its focus on delivering high quality, safe patient care within an exciting but challenging environment.”

Mr Leather will start in post on May 1, replacing Jacqueline Telfer who stepped down following her relocation to Scotland.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jacqueline for her commitment and hard work at the Trust, prior to her relocation to another part of the country,” Mr Johnson said.

Non Executive Directors play a crucial role in the leadership of the NHS, ensuring its strategic direction is in line with government policy, while also providing a voice for local communities.
