TWO South Lakeland District Council officers have received the annual Special Award from Windermere Civic Society.
Principal Community Spaces Officer Deborah Clarke and Green Spaces Officer Polly Straker said that they were surprised and delighted to receive the award, which was given in recognition of their work on the renovation of footpaths and flowerbeds on the Glebe at Bowness-on-Windermere.
The Bowness scheme on the edge of Windermere lake has involved improving footpaths, building flights of stone steps and establishing flowerbeds to replace grassed areas which had been severely damaged by large numbers of Canada geese.
he Glebe renovation was completed in time for it to be assessed by the team considering the Lake District in its successful bid for World Heritage status.
