A CHILDREN’S shoe shop in Windermere is celebrating two industry award wins and its first year in business.
Little Brogues on Birch Street was set up by Simon Dernie and partner Kate Williams last year and has gone from strength to strength.
The store was awarded the Best Children’s Footwear Store award by CWB, a children’s fashion magazine, and the Best New Independent Shoe Shop in the UK award at the UK Footwear Awards.
“It’s been a really positive year,” said Mr Dernie. “We have had a good trading year and we have increased since then, week on week.”
He said that CWB award was a ‘standout’ one within the industry and the Best New Independent Shoe Shop nod was pleasing as it was voted on by his peers.
“To get awarded the best in the UK is fabulous,” he said. “It’s above expectations.”
And partner Ms Williams has also been recognised for her efforts, as one of the top three students by the Society of Shoe Fitters.
He added that the brightly coloured and child-friendly shop had enjoyed ‘lots of repeat business’.
“The kids think the store is fantastic,” Mr Dernie said. “And because the kids love it the parents feel at ease, too.”
