400 members of Scouting from across south Cumbria celebrated St George’s Day with an adventure activity day last Sunday.
The event, jointly organised between the scout districts of South West Lakes and Kentdale, was held at Scout Adventures Great Tower on the west shore of Windermere.
Activities available over the day included archery, campfire cooking, high ropes, crate stacking, air rifle shooting, woodturning, orienteering, wide games, and challenges.
The event culminated with a ceremony held at Tower Rock where there was a re-enactment of the story of St George, a presentation of awards, and a renewal of Scout Promises.
St George, who is the Patron Saint of Scouting, was selected by Baden-Powell because St George was typical of what a Scout should be.
Eddie Ward, County Commissioner for Cumbria, said: “It is great to see two districts working together to provide and amazing day of fun for so many people.”
