HUNDREDS of runners are expected to take part in a run this evening (Thursday) in memory of Kendal's MasterChef star Matt Campbell.

Matt, 29, collapsed while taking part in Sunday's London Marathon. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he later died in hospital.

To honour Matt and continue to help raise funds for his charity of choice, Ambleside's Brathay Trust, runners will finish the 3.7 miles that he was unable to complete.

Runners have been asked to meet outside the White Cross Bay holiday park at 5.45pm.

The Low Wood Bay Hotel is offering its watersports centre car park for free and the Merewood Hotel's lower car park will also be available.

The Brathay Trust will also be assisting with mini bus transfers for returning runners to Ambleside.

The road will not be closed to traffic during the event but motorists should expect delays along the route from 6pm onwards and police ask those driving to allow extra time for their journeys.

Inspector Paul Latham said: “We hope that as many people as possible turn out this evening in memory of Matt, but ask that those who are joining in to act sensibly.

“Listen to the organiser’s, park in the directed places – please do not park or abandon vehicles along the A591, and follow the marshall’s instructions at all time.

“The roads are likely to be busy and we ask motorists to remain patient during this special event.”
