HAWKSHEAD'S masonic lodge celebrated the golden jubilee of Reg Walker who has reached the milestone membership of the order.

Reg originally became a freemason in his home town of Oldham in 1968. In 1974 he joined Hawkshead Lodge and has been the master of the lodge on two occasions.

From 1968 until 1998 he served with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary travelled worldwide providing logistical support for the Royal Navy. He was involved with the cod war with Iceland, the Falklands war and the Bosnian conflict.

Leading the celebrations at Hawkshead market hall was Assistant Provincial Grand Master David Grainger. Furness and South Lakeland group chairman Peter Schofield read a certificate from the Provincial Grand Master before presenting it to Reg.

A donation of £200 was made to the North West Air Ambulance. A celebratory three course meal was enjoyed with music from virtuoso organist Paul Gregson.
