A NEW artisan coffee shop and wine bar has opened its doors in Windermere.

The Smith Bar, on the approach hill up to Booths, is the brainchild of seasoned hospitality entrepreneurs Sarah and Robert Tudgey.

The building has had many incarnations since its Victorian origins as an industrial space.

After being empty for several months, it has started a new lease of life, providing around four new local jobs.

Cakes are baked by the award-winning Ginger Bakers in Staveley, sourdough bread comes from Lovingly Artisan, at Plumgarth, and coffee from Origin Coffee Roasters as well as local guest coffees.

The Smith, at Victoria Forge, Victoria Street, will shortly be opening in the evenings, offering wines, beers and spirits to enjoy alongside cheeses, charcuterie and other small plates.

“With so many award winning and interesting local food suppliers, we are really spoilt for choice in what we can offer’” said Robert.
