HUTTON Roof Country Fair and Fell Race takes place on Saturday (May 26, from noon). This fun day out for all the family includes traditional games and sports (sack race, egg & spoon), as well as stalls, crafts, plants, children’s activities, animals and delicious cakes served all day! Registration for fell races is at noon with juniors setting off at 1.15pm and the adult fell race at 2.15pm. The fair starts at 1.30pm.

CAVES, Falls and Fells is a Lake District National Park Authority guided walk from Tilberthwaite Quarry car park, near Coniston, in which walkers follow old quarry roads to Little Langdale, visit Cathedral Cave and then walk to Colwith Falls before returning over High Oxen Fell and Hodge Close. The walk is 6.2 miles long (10km) and approximately five hours duration. Meet at Tilberthwaite Quarry car park at 10.30am.

MUNCASTER Festival takes place from Sunday to Tuesday (May 27-29) at Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass. This atmospheric, carnival-style festival is held on the castle's front lawn with a range of entertainment including The Astral Circus Big Top, Deatbeats Drum Band, Ben Gates Sound Sculptures and Wild Dog Outdoors. So, if you are interested in spending a day with a sword-swallower, juggler and unicyclist to a general, all round slapsticking fool, then the Muncaster Festival is just up your alley. The festival culminates with the International Jesters Tournament held on the final day, the current fool - Dizzy O'Dare will vie with other hopefuls to defend his Fool of Muncaster title.

THE Swaledale Festival, founded in 1972, is an annual festival of music and arts based in the three most northerly Yorkshire Dales - Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale. The festival starts on Saturday (March 26) to June 9 at many venues throughout the region, it includes a programme of classical music concerts as well as folk, brass band, jazz and world music. Plus, there will be poetry, film, dance, drama, comedy, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions, children's events, talks and themed guided walks - a whole gaggle of entertainment, fun and activities to suit all tastes and ages.

VIENNA Festival Ballet performs The Sleeping Beauty, a classic fairy tale set to Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, stunning choreography, beautiful costumes, all combined to portray the struggle between good and evil.
