DR CHRIS Lane blames water skiers and waterboarders for playing loud music on Windermere (Letters, May 3, 'How can we stop this noise menace?'( but I thought that water skiing and wake boarding had ceased as the speed limit was too low for this activity to take place?

If the music from boats is still a persistent nuisance, I suggest Dr Lane contacts the council with the registration number of the offending boat and this will be dealt by the lake wardens, who have delegated powers similar to council officials and will deal with a statutory nuisance.

I would also caution that World Heritage Site status which was not voted on by the local electorate should not be used as blunt instrument to turn the area into some outdoor monastery.

No outdoor events as they attract noisy spectators? Curbs on noisy farm machinery? If silence prevails over some youthful enjoyment or legitimate enterprise then world heritage will result in residents being impacted by UNESCO in Paris rather than our elected government.
