MORE than 1,200 people enjoyed sunshine and blue skies at Kendal Parish Church's spring fair.

Young and old were entertained by performances from Kendal Concert Band's clarinet players, students from Kendal College and the Brewery Arts Centre, and the Kendal majorettes.

Cream teas were served and Patricia Hovey, secretary of Kendal Civic Society, gave fascinating tours of the historic place of worship, sharing the stories behind its stained glass windows, ancient stones and intricately carved woodwork.

Outdoor attractions included a fire engine and police car, bouncy slide, face painting, children's games, tombola, bric-a-brac stall, and hog roast supplied by the Striped Pig Company.

Fair organiser David Donnison described the day as a great success, saying: "Not only were we able to attract a large number of people to the fair but we raised more than £2,500 - much-needed funds for the church."
