KENDAL'S second walking festival demonstrated that it is taking great strides towards becoming a firmly established event on the town's social.

People travelled from Cambridge, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Sheffield, Southport and Leeds to hike the surrounding hills and explore the town.

"Judging by the feedback we have received from our visitors, they were delighted with the all walks that they took part in and were surprised and delighted in the views offered from such heights as Scout Scar and Cunswick Scar, Benson Knott, Upper Kentmere and the Howgills," said organiser Andy Blackman. "Many indicated that they could well be returning with friends for future festivals."

Volunteers from South Lakes Walking Club, U3A, Kendal Fellwalkers, Kendal Ramblers, The Wainwright Society, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Kendal Mountain Rescue Team, Kendal Civic Society and Kendal Town Council were involved in the planning process as well as leading walks and presentations.

"It is hoped that the reputation of the festival will grow to the point that it will be on many people’s radar when looking to experience the pleasures of such events and it will become a firm fixture in Kendal’s festival programme," said Mr Blackman.
