OFFICERS in South Cumbria are urging trades people with vans to take steps to secure and mark their property following three reports of theft to police in one day

People are being urged not to leave tools in vans and other vehicles overnight.

The warning follows the following reports of tools and over items being stolen from vehicles in Ulverston, Askam-in-Furness and Barrow-in-Furness.

Police Constable, Shannen Peet said: “We are investigating these offences and seeking to identify those responsible.

“While we continue with these efforts, I would urge people to permanently mark their tools to make them identifiable and help deter theft; etching tools with a postcode, businesses address or smart water will help police to identify them if they are recovered. I would also strongly urge people with power tools not to leave them in their vehicles overnight or unsecured in their vehicle while they work.

“Anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour or who has information which could assist should contact police on 101 immediately. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.”
